Thursday

We set out somewhat late on Thursday night tired and nervous because our costumes were Not Done. I did win $2 on a scratch ticket, however.

Friday

Woke up somewhat early to get on the train and travel into North Station from Haverhill. The train conductor's name was Dave, and his number was 666. This was a somewhat ominous start to the day. I cosplayed Soubi on the train, and considered taking some 'stalkery' photos. We decided we were weird enough already without that distraction.

We got to the convention and picked up our badges and started to wander around. (What most of the weekend would consist of for me. ^^;)

Riveth and I got stopped by fangirls for pictures a ton of times! Our fanservice seemed to have earned us some stalker-y fangirls. Oops. Luckily, one of them was wearing a badger suit, and was easy to spot from far away. :D

Three o' clock rolled around, so davonseraphash, xaigon and I went to check in and gather our belongings. Little did we know we'd be staying in the Biggest Fucking Room Ever.

riveth_86 and I made good use of the king sized bed later on that night.. >_>

After this we went to the yaoi panel, where the 'doushini' girl made another appearance. I don't know why she calls it 'doushini' because everybody I know says/writes doujinshi. But the yaoi panel is a tradition, so I sat through it anyway. ^^:

Saturday

I can't even remember how many people helped me pull off this costume at the last minute. >_<; I LOVE ALL OF YOU.

I do remember going to the masquerade. HOLY SHIT. Mostly, it sucked, but the beginning makes my mind boggle. A-chan (the con mascot) was dancing alone on stage until a bunch of cosplayers ran up on stage and started dancing as well. I WAS ONE OF THEM. This is probably one of the most OOC things I've ever, ever done. Just thinking about it makes my knees wobble. But there I was, on stage and dancing in front of thousands of people. *_*;;

...

We left the masquerade just before it ended so we'd beat the exiting rush and ran into some mushrooms downstairs.

I was still cosplaying Sora, so I had to try and attack them, of course. I swung my keyblade at one of them, and the key part went flying off and hit the ground. The mushroom pantomimed an 'oh no!' and there was this moment of silence before some random person yelled, "SOMEBODY GET A LOCKSMITH!" XD Yay for random people. Luckily for me, the blade can easily slip back into its slot. ^_^;

We had some angst with one of our roommates at this point, so me and Davon continued to wander around for hours. At one point, we decided to get some pickles. I don't remember much of this either..

Sunday

Last day! Finally went to the dealers room and bought the fuzziest plushie ever. ;_;

And cosplayed the boobie-molesting Zelos.

A little after this we ate lunch, but we were starting to get exhausted. So we decided to get on the train and head home.

After we got back into Manchester, I found out that the annual Rock 101 Sky Show was going on. So even after the whole convention weekend and everything, we went to see fireworks. :DDD It was sort of a good close to the whole deal really.

Also, a random cosplay picture that makes me thinks silly things.

So, yay Anime Boston 2006! :D

FMA Movie Review

I guess I haven't done this yet. Major spoilers ahead.

Overall-
I had really mixed feelings about this movie. I got to see all the characters I'd been wondering about since the end of the series, but I think Bones effectively raped canon. Eckart was somehow able to do alchemy without making a circle with her body or drawing a transmutation circle.

About the Brothers-
I was extremely disappointed in the way they re-united the brothers. They let Winry have a tearful embrace with Ed, and Al just had to stand by and say 'welcome home.' Which is just not fair, because Al hasn't even been able to touch his brother for years. I'd venture to say almost half of his life.

Heiderich-
Should I even go here? Heiderich has the biggest crush on Edward ever. It's not even that--he's seriously in love with Ed. What does he see in him? Nobody will ever know. Also, I timed some special moments for you all to ponder. ^_^
Heid's death scene (including funeral appearance): about seven seconds
Noah's DESPAIR scene: thirty seconds

And she freaking gets more screen time than him at his OWN FUCKING FUNERAL.

But, hey. Remember how Ed could see Hughes' ghost? Maybe it'll work the same way for Heiderich. ^___^ My OT3 shall live.

Hoenheim-
I can't even start to think about this. When he sacrifices himself the look on Ed's face says it all. He realizes that he's had a father all along. That maybe they could have worked something out. It.. just.. Ow. ;_; Hoho papa!

Looking Back--
I understand now after a few viewings of the movie why Ed decided to return to Munich. (Note: I have no subtitles, so there could be another reason, but this is what I'm reading based on his character. ^^:) Ed sees a new start in Munich--a place that he hasn't hurt terribly with his past mistakes. It's a very childish thing to do, but there's reason here. He seems to think he can try again at his life in Munich, and maybe try to work things out with Alfons. (Ed doesn't know that Alfons is dead at this point, mind.) Ed can live next to Hughes and watch Elysia grow up all over again the right way, with her father. He can reconcile with the dead he’s been mourning. The ones that were his fault. As you might have noticed, Ed has terrible problems with guilt. He's solving his own problems.

And what about the people he knew in Amestris? They’ll become the stories he tells to children.

And, finally, Al--
He was almost unbearably adorable in the movie. I wanted to take him home and cuddle him. Not only that, but he knows how to knock a little sense in his thick headed brother. And the desert scene? That will be endlessly iconable when the DVD comes out. XD

I'm sure I have way more to say than that, but those are the things that stuck out at me. Other than OMFG YAY THE BROTHERS ARE FINALLY TOGETHER! ^^;

Otakon 2005 Con Report

I'm back from Otakon safe and sound. ^_^; I had a great time, but I suppose that had nothing to do with the convention. The only things I actually went to were the masquerade and the dealers room.

Well, anyway, I have some pictures.

Thursday:

Got up really early to go on the OMG airplane! *hearts* I laughed when they made us take off our shoes and the guard yelled at me. XD Anyway. We had booked a room with two king-sized beds. Ahh, comfort. Things were a bit different in the room though.

So after much whining and rock paper scissors, we went to get our badges. The line was really, really long. We were bored enough to do the hokey pokey. ^^;

Friday and Saturday:

I'm notorious for forgetting what happened on what day on conventions. ^^; So usually all of my days lapse together. Anyway, here's some cosplayers!

Also, Krystle took my porn shop virginity on Friday night. ._. They smell like disinfectant.

Summary: It was the best idea Ed had ever gotten..

It was no small amount of inspiration that led Ed to egg Roy Mustang’s home.

In fact, it had come from several sources. Like the way Roy’s face has twisted into a familiar jeer when Ed had been called into the office for what the colonel blandly labeled a ‘meeting.’ Ed wondered if he didn’t have his little meetings just to prefect his jabs to his completely-normal-for-his-age stature. Maybe it had been the woman in one of the many marketplaces in Central who had insisted that Ed buy her stock of eggs. Or perhaps it had been the way she’d thrown one at his back when he refused—the yolk oozing down his jacket sickeningly after it hit him.

Whatever it had been, Ed knew it was undoubtedly greatest idea he’d ever come up with.

A great pride swelled in his chest as Ed surveyed his work. A little bit of alchemy had made the job go by quickly, leaving the colonel’s property practically bathed in egg. He allowed himself to smile, the expression threatening to split his lips. He decided that this prank was worth breaking protocol for—he strutted right to the colonel’s front door and rang the bell. A note sounded mutely from inside the house, and Ed waited impatiently for the door to open. Some egg dripped down onto his head from an overhanging drainpipe, and he managed to get it off before he even heard footsteps from inside.

Mustang finally opened the door and surveyed his property slowly. His first guess was that an Ishbalian rights group had used his home as a demonstration—he was a high ranking veteran from that conflict, after all. The second was that some sort of chicken orgy had converged in his yard. Soon though, a slow realization of what had happened crept into his brain. He registered the boy standing in front of him and immediately a sly grin crossed his fair features.

Ed watched with growing ire as the colonel’s gaze shifted to a spot somewhere above his head. “I could have sworn somebody was ringing the bell,” he said, looking back and forth for added affect, “but there’s not a soul around.” He shrugged apathetically, turned around and closed his front door.

It took all of ten seconds for the shock to wear off.

“WHO ARE YOU CALLING SO SHORT YOU WON’T EVEN DISCHARGE HIM FROM THE MILITARY FOR DEFACING PROPERTY!?”

Alchemy stuffs

So. After the crack that was our comic, I need to post something semi-scientific. Equivalent trade or something.

It happens to be one of my alchemy essays. ^_^

WARNINGS: A spoiler about the gate.

Alchemy at its smallest and most basic level appears to deal with a certain sub-atomic particle called an electron. Now when dealing with subatomic particles, it’s the most safe. When you dabble in protons and neutrons, you get to the nuclear side of things, and that’s potentially dangerous to humans. Since I’ve never heard of an alchemist dying from radiation poisoning, I’d venture to guess that they are, in fact, messing with electrons. (An exception to this is red water, but that’s for another discussion.)

Now, back in the day a man named Albert Einstein came up with a theory called the photoelectric effect. It basically says that if you hit metal with photons, electrons are emitted from it. This also works differently. Atoms can become excited—that is they begin to orbit at an energy level far greater than the atom they are attracted to. (See, science is sexy! ^^) It’s difficult for the electrons to remain in such high energy levels though, so eventually they return to their ground states. When they fall, they have the potential to emit something called a photon. (Or, a light packet.) When there are hundreds of millions of particles all doing the same thing, a lot of light can be emitted. This is the basic theory behind fluorescent bulbs as well.

Make sense yet?

The more excited the electron becomes (and thus the more energy you give it) the more light it has the potential to emit. This makes sense in the Hagaren world—the more difficult and energy-hogging transmutations appear to emit more light.

As a side note, the color of the light seems to be purely cosmetic, as it’s different for each alchemist.

And that’s all the psuedo-science I can pull out of my ass for today. Please correct me if my theories are off--I'm just remembering things from my various science courses.

Oh, speaking of light, alchemy explains the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ thing when you die. XD

Summary: Envy makes a little small talk

Envy glowered as he sprawled across one of the short benches in the deserted—or was is desserted?—bar. Gluttony sat sleeping a corner drool pooling at the corner of his mouth. Lust was perched upon one of the bar stools, sipping at a drink, Wrath like a dog at her feet. The young homunculus was staring off into space, tired from the day’s activities. Why did they all have to be so boring?

“I’m tired of people making assumptions about me,” Envy finally said, if just for attention. Lust frowned at the words. Sometimes the man’s voice had a way of grating against her nerves. “I mean, just because I’m called Envy everybody thinks I’m—”

“Envious?” Lust finished for him, examining her nails in the dim, dusty light.

“See? You did it just now. I was going to say mean.” Lust rolled her eyes, but remained silent. The dark woman stood up then, and Envy watched Wrath watch her breasts bounce deliciously from the movement. Envy frowned this time, then his body rippled and glowed for an instant. Two large breasts that could well rival the other homunculus’s formed, and Envy poked at one disinterestedly before letting it melt back into his chest with a shrug. “You have the same problem, right, Lust?”

A small, satisfied smile slipped onto her face.

“You could call it that…”
